What Causes Spitting Of Blood And Nose Bleeds Despite Giving Claritin To Child?
Hi Doctor, my 5 year old has been spitting blood for some time now. I did take her to the doctor and she did lung x-rays and results were fine. They gave her some amoxicilan but she ended up being allergic to it. She got off of it and asked me to give her some Claritin. I been given her Claritin but she has continued to spit blood mainly in the morning. However, tonight she had a nose bleed in which a small cloth of blood came out of her nose and she has woken up two times during the night and just spitting put plain red blood. As I was putting her to sleep tonight she complaint of having numb toes on her right foot. I don t now if this helps but just wanted to mentioned it. Thanks
It is possible that the blood may be related to post nasal drip though she may not sense the drip. Post nasal drip is a cause of irritation/inflammation of the throat and this inflammation can cause blood to be seen.
The use of decongestants and a nasal spray may help if this is the case.
You should consider taking her to an ENT doctor.
The numbness of her toes is not likely related. This may be due to positioning, inadequate fluid/salt intake. It can be monitored for any changes.
I hope this helps
