What Causes Soreness In Throat And Pain While Swallowing After An Injury?

I fell off of a chair and my throat was hit by the edge of a plastic milk crate about 14 hours ago. I feel ok except for a feeling of a sore throat, no trouble breathing but it hurts to swallow on the left side. I ve been drinking ok and I ve eaten since the fall. A cold compress seems to help. Should I be worried?I ve been doing some research and I m not sure what I should do

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM ,

As per your query you have soreness in throat and pain while swallowing after an injury . Well there can be many reasons for symptome you mention in query like sore throat , tonsillitis , viral pharyngitis and acid reflux .

But this is a serious problem. There will be congestion and swelling of this part of the throat. This is a type of throttling injury and should be investigated by an Endoscopy so that the extent of the swelling can be determined. If required you may need to undergo CT scan of the throat.

You need to take an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medicines for 7 days, take liquid diet only. Consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis .
