What Causes Soreness And Redness On The Arms After Taking Pneumovax-23 Shot?
I got pneumovax 23 injection Friday afternoon. In addition to my arm being extremely sore and red and fe verish, I have been very groggy and have slept for hours on end and my husband finally made me get out of bed Sat morn. I also had chills throughout the night. I was some better last night, but arm still very sore and the redness in my arm seems to be moving down by arm. Was this some kind of allergic reaction? What do I need to do to keep this from happening again? I am 77 yrs old female.
Some redness and swelling in the area of injection is a very common finding with vaccines and is generally nothing to worry as long as it is not more than 2-3 cm in diameter. Local cold compresses and some pain killers is all that is needed in this case.
If you have redness and swelling in the arm that is more then 3 cm in diameter or you think it is spreading you will need to see a doctor to rule out cellulitis which is a skin infection which can happen with any injection site. Oral antibiotics are needed if skin infection is developing.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
