What Causes Sore Throat While On Antibiotics?
Since last September I have been on 15 rounds of antibiotics for MRSA 4 times and Klebsiella Pneumoniae 4 times, Moraxella Catarrhalis once and Staphyloccus Aureus once. I recently asked my Infectious Disease Doctor if we could try antibiotics by IV. He reluctantly agreed to do this. I have been on the IV antibiotics by mid-line for 1 week, with one week to go. I still present with symptoms and I was wondering what your viewpoint of oral antibiotics versus IV antibiotics is. The RN told me this would at least give my liver a break and I would assume my stomach and kidneys as well. The antibiotic prescribed each time was based on a sputum culture. I am not running a fever, but 3 to 4 times a day I have to cough and really work hard to get the phlegm up, which is very thick and sticky which leads to a sore throat. I use a Nebulizer with Albuterol and I have a Dulera Inhaler that I do twice in AM and PM, along with the ProAir Inhaler when needed. Can you help me? Should I get a second opinion? I just cannot seem to recuperate from the lung infections.

i feel your worry and you are right to get worried but we should manage this problem
mrsa and klebsiella have resistance to antibiotics is type these bacteria accomodated and have resistance to more than one species of antibiotics as it has gene responsible for that
just you need to complete ckeckup to see your immune status
treatment of mrsa infection started with vancomycin antibiotic as it is the antibiotic of selection for cases of mrsa and you can discuss this with your doctors
multiple administration of antibiotics doesnot help as detection of the antibiotic that bacteria sensitive to
discuss with your doctor to do antibiotic sensitivity test as it is very important for treatment of resistant bacteria
you may have risk factor of this recurrent infection as stress and anxiety or chemotherapy
so most important step is to do antibiotic sensitivity tesr
another thing is that you should complete your course of treatment
to administer oral route or iv route not so important as to select the antibiotic according to culture and antibiotic sensitivity test
