Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son had C. Diff about a year ago and finally tested negative 7 months ago. Since then he has had soft stools and stomach pain. He started taking probiotics and he got better, almost back to normal. Two months ago the doctor gave him Celebrex (stopped taking after 9 days) and he immediately went right back to uncomfortable sift stools, feeling like it s not all eliminated when he uses the bathroom and stomach pain. A recent blood test showed his amylase was above the normal range and his lipase is on the high side of normal. He us unable to go to school. Any ideas?
Hi, Celebrex-celecoxib is a NSAIDs analgesic and has some gastrointestinal side effects like gastritis, gastric ulceration etc. It could be possible that your Son's stomach pain and soft stools could be due to this medicine. Now,rise in the levels of serum amylase and lipase could be indicative of acute inflammation of pancreas with symptoms like upper abdomen pain. If your son is suffering from above then you must take him to gastroenterologist for detailed history and thoroughly clinical examination with routine blood count and renal and liver function tests. He may require higher antibiotics with other supportive treatment. So,better you consult gastroenterologist immediately. Thanks.
