What Causes Small Red Dots On The Back Of Throat?

My son had a fever of 101.3 yesterday and was sent home from school. He remained febrile overnight, but was then was afebrile all day. He has had a c/o of a sore throat at this time which is his only ongoing symptom. He is eating and is well hydrated. There are small red dots on the back of his throat. Of note: hand, foot, and mouth has been going through my dtr s preschool. My son has no rashes.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that your son has granular Pharyngtis leading to red spots in throat along with sore throat and fever that can be most probably due to viral infection.

I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Throat swab culture can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..

-Antibiotics like Augmentin OR Azithromycin to resolve the infection..
-Anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen can be taken to relive pain. -----Doing warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and using a humidifier in your room can be very much relieving.
-You can also suck throat lozenges to soothe the throat..
-Gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
-Gargle with antiseptic solution like few drops of betadine in water..
-Chew Vitamin C pellets to boost up the immunity..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
