What Causes Small Painful Lump Near Toe Post Injury?

I fell down the stairs over a year ago and banged the side of my foot around the little toe. Now I have a small 'bunion' type lump at the side of my little toe but what is really sore is the 'pad' on the bottom of my foot below my little toe. It is painful enough to prevent me walking bare-footed. What could this be and what can I do to reduce pain. I have already changed my footwear to have 'orthotic' type insoles. This helps as long as I am wearing shoes.

Dear patient,
As our hands and feet have tightly packed compartments, at times, bumps in these compartments can lead to swellings with excruciating pain. Now the reasons for sweeling could be a hematoma underneath, any corn at the site of bump or may be something like a fleck of wood or a tiny prick could have gotten embedded in that site. you can use hot fomentation at site of pain to relieve swelling, a heparin gel locally to resolve hematoma, an NSAID drug to relieve pain and swelling.
But first and foremost, pls visit a surgeon to rule out any foreign body that may have got implanted in the toe.
