What Causes Slow Weight Gain In A Baby?

Hi Doctor, My baby is 5 weeks old now. At birth he was 2.88 Kgs. After 1 Week he was 2.6 Kgs. But after 4 weeks he gained very little and was 2.75 Kgs only. Throught this time he was on breast milk. But after 4 weeks doctor suggested to give Zerolac alternatively with breast feeding. We are little worried as he has not gained the birth weight till now. Could you please suggest if we are going in right direction. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks , Barun

hi some babies are slow to regain their birth weight, but they should do that by 2wks of age. is your child having loose motions for which zerolac must have been given, if not I suggest you go for other milk formulas as zerolac is bland and most of the babies don't like it. I suggest you breastfeed the baby and after every feed if the baby is hungry and not satisfied give her some amount of formula, check your baby's weight weekly for improvement. hope this answer helps you , take care
