Hi Dr. Rynne, So nice to have someone ask me if I have a question. I was diagnosed November 19 of this year. I started on Rilutek and Baclofin in full doses to start over the Thanksgiving holiday. Got very nauseous and weak then had to stop. About 3 weeks later, I tried going back on both in very reduced amounts per Drs suggestion. Started with 1/4 each 1x per day then progressed to 1 1/2 dose of Baclofin (should be 4 x per day of 10 mg each) and was up to 1/2 2x per day so 1/2 of daily dose. I started experiencing terrible leg tightness, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, and muscle tightness around my mouth and my tongue. I couldn t get a Dr. to see me except to say over the phone that it wasn t natural and go off the meds or get into an emergency room. I reviewed the sign effects of both meds again and found that Baclofin can have these results. I went off Baclofin all together and reduced the Rilutek down to 1/2 per day. I have seen improvements in the leg tightness, the heart palpitations, shortness of breath and slightly better in the speech. So my questions are - #1 - will my speech get better. It went bad over less than a week or is this the ALS? I did not get help with my Dr. except to say it wasn t normal for the speech to happen like this. When I read more about ALS, I see slurred speech is part of ALS. I am really confused and not sure what to do. I feel like I am out here alone. I want to keep going on the Rilutek since it is suppose to help keep my muscle strength longer but the muscle tightness, though better, is an issue and holds me back from walking better. #2 Does the Rilutek cause any of these tight effects?? BTW -- my internist did a breathing test a few weeks ago and I blew better than normal - over 103%. Thanks so much in advance! Hope4Me
