What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Palpitations While On Macrobid?

I had a cold before I started taking Macrobid. Started taking it yesterday after two days of high fever and bladder pain and frequency and urination. I have a kidney stone and a stent in place. Today when I cough I become short of breath and can feel my heartbeat for a few minutes. If it s a single cough it s not so bad it is very noticeable if I have a coughing episode. I did not have this before I started taking the medicine. Pulse ox is 96. Should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The O2 sat of 96 is fine, it is not usually 100 in most persons, the normal range is 94 to 99. Some persons have in the low 90's and are fine.

Right now, your body is fighting 2 illnesses and this can affect the heart rate.

The cold symptoms may be progressing, they normally reach a peak and then plateau. You may need additional treatment for your cold.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
