What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Chest Pain?

My daughter is 16 and has been dealing with episodes of shortness of breath/chest pain-- at first we thought it was anxiety attacks maybe. She went to the emergency room once a few months ago and they ran some tests but didn t find anything. Now, since it s occurring so often, we are thinking maybe it s related to acid reflux possibly? It always passes after a little while but it s very uncomfortable for her.

Hi There

After going through your query I understand your concern.

I would like to tell you that chest pain in children is very common and can be due to various causes like strain in bones or muscles, inflammation, small trauma, anxiety or structural heart disease. Acid reflux can also cause chest pain in kids but will be associated with nausea or vomiting instead of breathlessness.

Kindly get an ECG and Echocardiography done to evaluate any structural heart disease and consult with a Physician/Cardiologist regarding same.

Hope to have been Helpful.

Kind Regards
Dr. Navneet Bansal
