What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Abdominal Bloating?

My husband is experiencing shortness of breath, bloating. This all came on suddenly. He originally went to the doctor for a nasal drip, but things have escalated. Now he has all these symptoms in addition to irregularity. We almost went to the ER last night. He can t sit comfortably. The sensation seems to intensify at night and when he sits back or lays down. I don t know if I seek see a gastroenterologist or a respiratory specialist.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

With the bloating and irregularity of bowel movements, it would be best to see a gastroenterologist for assessment. Severe bloating can sometimes compress the lungs and affect breathing.

His family doctor can refer him to someone that would be able to help assess him.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James,
