Hello, I have a quick question. I have been training hard the last few months for a very physically demanding job in wildland firefighting. I am 35 and have exercised regularly for the last ten years and am in good shape. The only thing I could say could be better is my diet, but I do try to eat well and have some short term success with balancing carbs, protein, fruits and veggies. Lately, I ve notice I have short bouts of shortness of breath, where it feels like my heart skipped a beat or I forgot to breathe. In fact, sometimes I wonder if I m not holding my breath when exerting myself. This can happen when I m sitting at work or while I m running. I do have a history of panic attacks and I do notice it s more likely to happen after I drink caffeine. I try to moderate my caffeine intake (one 16 oz black iced coffee per day) and maybe an occasional Coke. My training is just about finished, but I still have two weeks left where I need to push myself a bit more and then I will be able to back off a bit for a month before I try out for the position. If I am offered the job, there will be 5-6 weeks of extremely brutal training, comparable to Navy Seals. Does this sound like something related to cumulative fatigue or possibly a more serious condition?
