What Causes Short Attention Span And Slow Learning In Child?

What are some suggestions for a 6 year old who is very intelligent but is acting out in school and not progressing as fast as she should. She understands far beyond her age. Has spoken in complete sentences since 2-3 years old but attention span is making her fall behind her peers. Should she be on meds or natural remedies or what.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It seems a case of ADHD. Cause of ADHD is not clearly understood yet. However, it is thought that genetics and environment plays a role. Prognosis will depend on severity of illness and it may be different for different patients.

You should, consult your pediatrician. There are medicines, which can reduce the symptoms to a great extent. Behavior therapy, may also be effective in such cases if taken under guidance of behavior mode program therapist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
