What Causes Sharp Pain Under The Ribs With Vomiting After Food Intake?

I recently at a cheeseburger with grilled onions and within 40 minutes I had acute pain under the breast bone in the center of my chest. I drank some soda hoping to burp and did so, however the pain did not go away. I them vomited and the pain lessened, however that area is still sore to the touch. Wondering if it was just a gas buildup or a gall bladder issue.. Thanks

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is due to severe gastritis secondary to acid reflux.

As a first line management you can take antacids like omeprazole or pantoprazole for symptomatic relief. Avoid spicy foods.

Nothing much to worry and you will be fine in a couple of days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
