What Causes Sharp Pain In The Lower Calf?

I am a 19 yr old female and run cross country for a division college. Sometimes I experience sharp intense stabbing pain in my lower calf at the top of my Achilles tendon even though I stretch out appropriately before my races. What could be the cause?

Hello,
The pain could be due to some kind of inflammation. It could most probably be some kind of tendinitis. I would suggest you to consult a physiotherapist. You may be offered hot and cold therapy, ultra sound or infrared therapy to reduce the inflammation. If the pain is continuous and severe, do not put much stress and rest would be better in such situations. If physiotherpay doesn't help you, then you need consult an orthopaedic surgeon and undergo management as directed.
Hope the above information helps you. Thank you for writing into healthcaremagic. All the best for your future athletic career. Have a wonderful day.
