What Causes Sharp Pain In The Back Of The Mouth After Using A Q-tip?

Hi Dr. Bhatti, I ate a big bowl of popcorn about 20 minutes ago. Halfway through the bowl, it felt like a piece was stuck in a corner in the back of my mouth but I kept eating until the bowl was finished. Then I used a Q-Tip and found the little piece and removed it. But now when I swallow it feels like there is something sharp in the back left corner. There is a white spot in that area which hurts when I touch it with a Q-Tip. I tried gargling and drinking water and the piece of popcorn is gone, I think. Should I be concerned about the white area that hurts?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that there is either a tonsil stone if it is on the tonsil or a small pustule present at the back of throat and the mucosa around it is inflamed leading to pain on touching with a q-tip..
In case if it is not being removed with a q tip it does not seems to be due to popcorm particle..
Nothing to worry, as of now you can gargle with warm saline solution.
Take Ibuprofen for pain..
Avoid hard and spicy foods..
Drink plenty of water..
In case if it still doen not improve in 2 to 3 days of if the symptoms worsen consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated..
In case of tonsil stone or piece of popcorn manual removal using a tweezer will help..
In case of pustule a short course of antibiotics and anti -inflammatory medicine and warm saline gargles will relieve..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
