What Causes Sharp Pain In The Abdominal Area After A Laparotomy?

I had a laparotomy last Monday. Obviously my scar is less than a week old, so I m still pretty sore near/around the incision. Then, yesterday, I had to sneeze. As it came, I immediately went for my op site and held it, as instructed by my physiotherapist. However, almost simultaneously I felt a sharp pain in my abdominal area to the left of my belly button. It is quite painful when I move, I d say possibly more painful than the site of my operation. Could I possibly have a hernia or is it just a muscle pull that I should wait out to heal along with the op incision?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It could something as simple as a pulled muscle or a small hematoma in your abdominal wall. If the pain prevents you from living your everyday life, I suggest you see a doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anders Mark Christensen,
General Surgeon
