What Causes Sharp Left-sided Upper Abdominal Pain After Eating?
I had a sharp pain in my left side just above my waist about 10 minutes after I ate lunch. Approximately 2 hours later i felt lightheaded and a little dizzy like I was passing out. It only lasted a couple of seconds, I think. I don t know if the two are associated. Should I call my PCP? I am 69, in good general health, other than crohn s which has been bad for the past couple of months.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Since you are a known patient of Crohns you can have inflammation anywhere in the small intestine and particularly in large intestine hence it is possible that your pain is related to this. Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation wherein you got severe pain in the left side just above the waist after eating lunch which can be a reflex phenomenon. This in turn can cause light headedness and dizziness. Yes you should cal your PCP, consult him and get a reference for the following: Reference for a Gastroenterologist. Tests of stool, blood and urine. Colonoscopy and biopsy. CT scan of the whole abdomen. All these will get you the best possible diagnosis and a plan for a proper management.
