What Causes Severe Weakness In The Arms And Legs?

My wife woke last night (sleeps on her side) with severe weakness in her arms and legs, i.e., couldn t roll over, difficulty sitting up, etc. I gave her 2 Excedrin and she wanted to rest (after I checked her eyes, speech, etc. It sounds like a TIA, but of course, I can t be sure -- any suggestions (we walk 2-5 miles each day and have for many years).

Your wife having weakness history suddenly...

You have mentioned that you have check her speech also... So kindly give me detail history of that...
If slurred speech present than TIA should be ruled out....

Work up done with....
-blood pressure measurement
-neurological examination
-muscular reflex
-CBC
-CRP
-MRI scan if needed

According to cause further treatment can be guided....
