What Causes Severe Upper Abdominal Pain, Back Pain And Nausea?

I had severe upper abdominal pain as well as back pain - between shoulder blades last night. It woke me up and did not get better with changing positions, pacing, sitting, lying down. In addition, I was nauseous. It has gotten slightly better with time - now 10 hours have passed since the onset, but it is still there. I have not eaten since this occurred. I did have both cheese and ice cream last night - so a good portion of dairy. The pain came on suddenly, but for the last two days I ve been slightly nauseous and my joints have hurt. Looking for possibilities with those symptoms.

The pain abdomen with nausea can be a result of many things few of which include food poisoning, sometimes it can be due to a specific organ with some underlying pathology. When the pain persists for so long I would suggest you see a doctor in the ER and get an ultrasound done.

The severe back pain may or may not be a referred pain due to the symptoms you are having currently. You will be given medicines in ER for pain management which will bring some relief and with all history and some blood tests, imaging tests your doctor will be able to find out the exact cause behind this. With appropriate treatment, you will feel better.
