Hello,

The following are few causes of swelling of scrotum:
1) Inguinal hernia
2) Hydrocele
3) Varicocele
4) Spermatocele
5) Testicular tumor
6) Bladder herniation into scrotum which is rare

Most of the times, these are treatable conditions requiring a minor surgical procedure. So you don't need to worry. He needs a clinical examination and if necessary, ultrasound imaging of scrotum. Please do consult a general surgeon for further evaluation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
