What Causes Severe Swelling And Pain In Throat Along With High Fever?

My 20 year old daughter tested positive for Mono. They gave her Predisone and a antibiotic. She started them Sunday. She kept getting worse and we went to ER on Monday afternoon because of the swelling and severe pain. The ER doctor gave her Hydrocodone. She takes her last steroid tomorrow and it seems the swelling is worse and she had been running a fever of 101.7 most of day. She isn t sleeping and pain meds are not lasting until time for next dose. I was wondering if this sounds normal. She has actually gotten worse the last two days and the fever just started today. Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated. Debra

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
From history it seems that there might be having severe upper respiratory tract infection.
As antibiotic medicine is continued since two days, it takes some time to work and will give its effect after 2-3 days.
Wait for 1-2 day more.
Along with antibiotic medicine give some anti-inflammatory medicine to control infection.
Give her light diet.
Give her plenty of water.
Avoid cold drinks and junk food.
Ok and take care.
