What Causes Severe Spasms Above Right Knee?

Hello, I have a persistent - almost violent spasms above my right knee, on the outside of it. I just had a day full of running, and I did not consume anything with sugar, except for fruit in the morning. I drank a lot of water throughout the day. Spasms only started a few hours after I was finished with the physical activity, lat at night. The spasms get worse when I fully extend my leg and is less severe when my knee is bent. I am 19, 5 10, fit and healthy. Should I be worried? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to hcm,
Your symptoms could be because of exertion which leads to potassium deficiency and rhabdomyolysis which will cause spasms.I advise you to take rest and electrol powder. It will be cured. If the symptoms doesn't subside then get serum electrolyte and urine microscopy to see for any signs of hemolysis.

Thank you
