What Causes Severe Rib Pain After Treating Pneumonia?

I have had severe rib pain starting when I had pneumonia about 6 mos ago. I ve had about 8 X-rays and no broken rib. I ve had a ct scan and an ultrasound to rule out gallbladder or liver issues. I was first diagnosed with a torn intercostal muscle but the pain is still there and it should ve healed by now. I ve been to a GI doctor with nothing to be found. Also been to a pulmonary doc and all checked out ok. The pain worsens when I cough, laugh, lay down. It s terrible pain. What else could it be? It s now starting to radiate toward my shoulder blade in addition to the original pain site of under my right arm about middle of the way in my rib area. Sometimes it feels like there s something skipping out of place and it feels like it s popping.

Hello,

Tear in intercostal muscle can be managed with rest and pain killers. Tear in intercostal muscle will not be visible on X-ray, ultrasound or CT scan.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
