I m 48, overweight and probably beginning menopause, The last 23 months a few days before I begin my cycle I have terrible pain in my left side only relieved when I lay on that side but when I sit there s no relief it makes it worse. Could it be an inflamed ovary?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

If the pain is in the region of the lower abdomen and on one side it could be due to an abnormality of the ovaries, which can include cysts, inflammation, ovulation pain, etc. I would recommend a visit to your gynaecologist for an ultrasound for he reproductive system in order to reach a more conclusive diagnosis.

Best wishes.
