What Causes Severe Panic Attacks After 3 Years Of Tobacco Withdrawal?
why am I still experiencing SEVERE panic attacks after 3 weeks of being smoke free from cigarettes? It actually started right before I started the quitting process. I suffer from depression and I do take anti depressants. Should I ask my doctor to increase my dosage?
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Cigarette smoking causes dependence of tobacco or nicotine dependence. Nicotine is a highly addictive substance and abrupt stoppage of smoking may result in withdrawal in form of craving, restlessness, insomnia and in some individuals it may cause difficulty in focus, panic attacks etc symptoms. You are already suffering from depression and on treatment so you can visit your doctor to increase the dose of your drugs. Some drugs like Bupropion, Buspirone can help to reduce the withdrawal symptoms of tobacco. These drugs will also augment the actions of your anti-depressants and will reduce craving. Visit a psychiatrist for prescription.
Hope this helps you. Thanks and Take care
