Hi,

There can be many causes of pain under the arch of the foot. Based on the history you seem to have developed calcaneal (heel) spur. It is a calcium deposit causing a bony protrusion on the underside of the heel bone and it is frequently associated with a painful inflammation of the fibrous band of connective tissue (plantar fascia) that runs along the bottom of the foot and connects the heel bone to the ball of the foot.

You can get it from wearing the wrong shoes or from an abnormal walk or posture, or even from activities like running. It may hurt while you’re walking or standing. It usually does not cause pain in most of the people. People with flat feet or high arches are more likely to have painful heel spurs. Injury to plantar fascia can be another cause. I advise you the following:

1. Rest your foot.
2. Do heel and foot muscle stretches.
3. Take over-the-counter pain relievers like Ibuprofen.
4. Wear shoes with good arch support and a cushioned sole.
5. Consult an orthopedic surgeon if you do not get relief.

Hope the advice given above would be useful. Let me know if I can assist you further. A feedback is appreciated.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
