What Causes Severe Pain In The Upper Back And Tightness In The Calves?

My calves have felt like concrete for 6 months. In the past 7 weeks that feeling is now from the upper back down. I do have major spine and hip problems but do not think this is related. Walking is very painful and very slow. I don t know what to be tested for. I want to walk. I cannot stand long enough to load the dishwasher or fold towels. I use many different creams such as emu oil, emu cream, arnica oil, an arthritis supplement Curamin, I bought green tea extract capsules in case I had water build up thinking it would release the complete tightness in the calves. So the calves are hard as a rock and now they are trying to walk through quicksand and I m done.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry to hear that.

Pain in the calf is due to muscle spasm. You could use ibuprofen for your pain. If the pain is not subsided you may have to get muscle nerve conduction studies to know the cause of pain.

major spine and hip problems could be the reason for pain in your legs.
You may have to get X-ray and MRI done and consult a neurosurgeon if any disc compression that is causing compression of nerve.

Hope, this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us.

I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
