What Causes Severe Pain In The Shoulder Blade?

After batting practice, my son has complained of a sever pain in his upper back near or right under his left shoulder blade. Could this be Subscapularis Strain or something more serious? If a Subscapularis Strain, what should he do to resolve the pain?

Thanks for the query.
This is a kind of Repeated Strain Injury. You boy must have done so much of stressful movements with his left shoulder. Some inflamation along with pain may be arised following. This is most common. I advice a hot bath, analgesic ointment and some rest. Within 2,3 days he will be alright. If still pain continues some analgesics can be afministrated.
Don't forget to take a warm up next time prior to the practise.
