I am experiencing severe heartburn with pain in the esophagus when sneezing, swallowing or eating with simultaneous back pain I went to a walkin clinic and they prescribed Omeprazole. Do I need to see a gastroenterologist..?I also had an ekg that showed no heart issues today.

Hi,
Please continue to take omeprazole for one week. The medication should be taken at least 30 min before having food.
a) Along with medications have food at proper time.
b) Do not Skip your meals.
c) Include fresh fruits in your diet.
d) Avoid spicy and oily items in your meals.
e) The time gap between your dinner and sleep should be min 2-3 hrs.

Please follow these instructions along with the tablet for one week, if there is any improvement continue the same for another week. If there is no improvement then you would likely require to under go investigations.
