What Causes Severe Pain In Neck And Spine?

I am a competitive gymnast, but I had a knee injury a month ago which hasn t healed completely yet so my jump wasn t strong enough and I was doing my back tuck on the trampoline(luckily not the floor) this last Friday, but landed on on my neck and my legs went over my head to a nice little crack . I could move and got immediately up and resumed my training normally and it did not bug me, but, at night I felt my neck and back were super sore. It improved though Saturday and Sunday and it s better today, but my upper back still hurts especially when I let my head hang forward and my spine sorta hurts when I hang it backwards(which is worse pain) Do you think it s just sore muscles instead? I m a girl and barely a teen, btw.. Any advice cause I kinda need to be SUPER well by tomorrow __ Also, when I turn it left or right it doesn t really hurt much even when it s sudden, but it s sorta soreish...It s not that big of a pain, could it be serious or can I resume my life normally and it ll heal on it s own?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe pain in neck and spine . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like muscle spasm , cervical spondylosis, TMJ problem , nerve compression , ear infection or heart problem like angina . For now stay calm , take ibuprofen , apply warm compresses to shoulder and arm , do light stretching exercises under expert or acetaminophen for pain and take proper rest. Doctor may also refer you to dentist for TMJ problem . For now eat light and soft , sleep in correct posture and try to reduce your stress level , as such pain can also occur due to stress .I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination and treatment . Doctor may order CT scan , MRI along with nerve conduction test and physical examination to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant , anti inflammatory , nerve supplement along with physical therapy . In some cases doctor may recommend surgery .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
