Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
When I lay down to sleep at night my arms ache and my hands go to sleep. A lot of pain in the elbow area and high on the underside of the arm. Worse in the right arm than the left. Hands tingle a little during the day but no aching. Can sleep it aches so.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe pain in elbows while sleeping. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like ulnar nerve entrapment ( Cubital tunnel syndrome ) , tennis elbow or injury . Cubital tunnel syndrome is the effect of pressure on the ulnar nerve, one of the main nerves of the hand. It can result in a variety of problems, including pain, swelling, weakness or clumsiness of the hand and tingling or numbness of the ring and small fingers. It also often results in elbow pain on the side of the arm next to the chest. I would suggest you to apply warm compresses to arm , provide a custom pad or support to keep your elbow from bending while you sleep and identify aggravating activities . If condition doesn't get well then consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor will take history . Doctor may prescribe NSAID medication , recommend physical therapy or may be surgery in severe damage .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
