What Causes Severe Pain From The Stomach To The Torso And Shoulders?

I have an ongoing spasm issue that has unusual symptoms and would like to know if this can be identified. I wake up from sleep, severe pain starts in stomach, then to entire torso, and shoulders. Cannot speak; cannot breathe, Feeling of paralysis in the same areas. Lasts several hours. Have been using muscle relaxer when it first starts but still takes several hours to subside.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI,

You should consider an assessment from a neurologist to see if you can find the exact cause of the muscle spasm.

Blood tests, as well as other neurological tests, would need to be done to assess the function of the nerves supplying the muscles.

Blood tests such as electrolyte levels (calcium, sodium, potassium, magnesium)- can be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
