What Causes Severe Pain Between The Knee And Ankle?

My friend experienced terrible pain in her leg between her knee and ankle. If she pushed down on her leg muscle running from her knee down to her ankle it was excruciating, but if she ran her hand up from her ankle to her knee there was no pain. This came on suddenly last week and lasted for two days, during which she was unable to walk, and then stopped. She had a similar occurrence several months ago only in her arm. That lasted 3 days. She said the pain was worse than giving birth. Any ideas on what this could be?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my surgical experience, this much intense pain with two separate body site presentation may indicate underlying muscular disturbances either in form of ATP synthesis or another form of myopathy.
* It is strongly recommended to undertake an evaluation with electromyography, creatine kinase muscle for further diagnosis and management accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
