What Causes Severe Pain Behind The Ankles?

I have an achcles sprain in back of my ankle. I have put ice on it the last few days and it seems to be getting better. I hurt it playing tennis and I m wondering if I should wrap up the ankle as I want to play again this Sunday? Should I stay off it a little longer? Thanks My email address isYYYYY

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Sprain is a harmless condition and it will resolve well with conservative management including rest and ice packs.
However it is better to take rest and avoid playing for a week atleast. If you continue to play with sprained ankle there might be potential risk of tendon injury and development of unwanted complications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
