What Causes Severe Pain And Blood Clots On Ankle After Suffering From Knee Sprain?

Hey, last saturday I fell heavily on left ankle, a&e diagnosed nasty sprain but a clinical fracture ie. cant weight bear and extremely painful. Put on back slab cast (ankle to knee) and bandaged it on. cast rubbed against back on knee til pressure sore. took it off and strapped myself. Now theres what appears to be mutliple small horizontal blood bags around afflicted ankle and up at toes. Any ideas? they gave painkillers but i dont like to take painkillers

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe pain and blood clots on ankle after suffering from knee sprain. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like fracture , soft tissue injury like tendon or ligament or hematoma . I would suggest you to aplly ice pack for first 48 hour several times a day and after 48 hours apply warm compresses take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and keep your leg and foot elevated while lying down . If condition doesn get well then consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan MRI or physical examination . Doctor may give plaster , prescribe muscle relacxant , anti inflammatory along with physical therapy .
