What Causes Severe Itching On The Abdomen Post A Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

I had gastric sleeve 12 days ago. The last four days my abdominal area is severely itchy. It started in one small area on the right side and has progressed to larger area. I have 5 incisions but they do not itch at all. What is causing the severe itching?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Some allergic reaction to certain equipment used during the surgery or dressing you are using to cover the wound might be the cause.

You can take Loratadine 10 mg at night to help with itchiness and please let your doctor know as soon as possible.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,

Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
