What Causes Severe Intestinal Gas After Colonoscopy?

It has been over 48 hours since my colonoscopy, and I still have a lot of gas. What can I do to relieve it? I also feel pain in my abdomen like someone is squeezing it very tightly. Any suggestions? I took liquid antacid with simethicone and then I chewed two Tums. I still feel awful!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Feeling gas is due to the procedure. Continue taking antacid, Simethicone and Tums.

Avoid foods/drinks that would increase gas (like lentils, cauliflower, carrots, etc.)

Drink more water. Avoid carbonated drinks.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini,
