What Causes Severe Indigestion And Pain In Sternum?

I have been experiencing severe indigestion with burning pain located low. At the bottom of the sternum. Today I have had pain for over 5 hours. Continuous belching. Pain radiating to the back. I do not have a gall bladder. This pain is similar to the pain I had with gall bladder attacks. No relief with antacids. Food choices seem to have no effect. I am 59, female, obese, diabetic.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted that you are a female of 59, fatty and diabetic, having pain in the low at the bottom sternum, severe indigestion, burning pain not relieved by antacid.
The most probable causes are:
Diabetes causes gastroparesis and hence the food and acid is retained for far more time enhancing the GERD, that you have .
Severe form of lower esophagitis may take more time to settle.
Obesity predisposes to hiatus hernia which further leads to the existing problem.
I would suggest you hte following:
Upper GI Endoscopy
Barium study
Control of blood sugar
Control of the obesity by regular exercises and dieting
O consider the option of bariatric surgery which will control all the things.
