What Causes Severe Diarrhoea After Taking Cefdinir?
My 31 yo daughter was prescribed cefdinir for a cold/flu that had lasted for 2 weeks and was not going away. She is getting worse after a couple of days on it - terrible diarrhea and tonite a fever which she didn t have before. She lives alone and I m worried about her. Should she stop taking it?
You guessed right. Your daughter's diarrhea is most probably due to the antibiotic Cefdinir that she is taking.
She should stop taking cefdinir at the earliest. She can take Co-amoxiclav instead or talk to her doctor for a substitute.
For diarrhea, she should take Loperamide till loose watery motions stop. Also, ask her to supplement her fluid intake with electrolyte powder. She should eat bland food.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
