What Causes Severe Cramps In The Abdomen And Breathing Difficulty?

My 9 year old son plays soccer. He experiences severe cramping in his stomach after running hard for a short distance. Has difficulty breathing at the same time. Has not been diagnosed with Asthma but has been prescribed Montelukast. I need a good direction to point his doctor in.

Hello,

Most probably it is cramps related to dehydration or physical exertion. As a first line management, you can give him analgesics like Acetaminophen and ask to drink plenty of water.

If symptoms persist better to consult a paediatrician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
