What Causes Severe Cough Post Wine Consumption?

Hello, just wondering why I have this uncontrollable cough after consuming the first sip of wine. red or white, doesnt matter. Mixed drinks too. Dont drink beer often, so cant remember if it happens with beer or not. Will be 49 in March. When in my 20 s and 30 s never had this issue. Father was alcoholic and passed of laryngeal cancer. was a smoker too. I dont smoke, never have. Did drink on weekends when younger. After Dad passed, 11 yrs ago, didnt drink for many years (5?) but now anytime I take the 1st sip. Coughing for several mins, then it subsides, and I can drink the rest w/o issue...What do you think? Psychosomatic?

Hello,

It can be a psychogenic cough while you start drinking.

If you have some problem of having a cough related to drinking than you could have a persistent cough while drinking.

So you can neglect it.

If a cough worsens without any reason than investigate with chest x-ray for further work up.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
