What Causes Severe Cough, Chest Congestion, Headache, Chills And Fatigue?

My husband has had a non-productive deep cough with some chest congestion for about 2 weeks. In the last few days he has developed head congestion, chills and fatigue. I have given him OTC cough/congestion medicine and a nasal decongestant. He just seems to not be getting better. What else can I do? Thanks, Renee

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, you should take your husband to hospital.
He is not improving with routine cough medicines, rather worsening in symptoms.
Possibility of lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) is more in his case.
So better to consult doctor and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and chest x ray.
Chest x ray is must for the diagnosis of LRTI.
He may need antibiotics and other supportive drugs for LRTI.
So better not to wait at home and consult doctor immediately.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your husband. Thanks.
