What Causes Severe Chest Pain And Numbness In The Shoulders?

Hi, I am 15 years old. I am a female, and I am ppretty healthy. I m really never sick. About a couple months ago, maybe, my chest just started to hurt badly. The pain is in the center of my chest, right between my breasts. The pain radiates to my back, and it kind of numbs my shoulders. It s kind of hard to explain. The pain feels like someone is sitting on top of my chest. It s like I m being squeezed really hard, and it hurts really badly. I have to move around to relieve it, but it only lasts a couple seconds then it s back. It comes and go s at random times, and lasts about 20 minutes. I can breathe, but there s a lot of pressure. Should I see a doctor, or is it normal? Thanks for the help, I appreciate it a lot.

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, you should definitely consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Central chest pain, chest pressure on Breathing etc are seen in bronchitis.
So PFT is must for the diagnosis.
If PFT is normal than GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) is another possibility.
It is due to laxity of gastroesophageal sphincter. Because of this the acid of the stomach tends to come up in the esophagus and cause the symptoms of Central chest pain, pressure in chest etc.
So avoid stress and tension. Start proton pump inhibitors.
Don't worry, you will be alright. But first rule out bronchitis.
Hope I have solved your query. Wish you good health. Thanks.
