What Causes Severe Chest Pain After A Left Ventricular Failure?

A middle-aged woman is admitted to the coronary care unit with a diagnosis of left ventricular failure resulting from a myocardial infarction. Her chart indicated that she was awakened in the middle of the night by severe chest pain. Her skin is pale and cold, and moist sounds of pulmonary edema are heard over the lower regions of both lungs. Explain how failure of the left ventricle may cause severe chest pain, pale and cold skin, and moist sounds of pulmonary edema.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* The left ventricular failure with severe chest pain, pale, cold skin and moist sounds of pulmonary edema indicate extension of LVF affecting lungs via build up back pressure changes through left atria.

* Various measures needed to control vital parameters as monitoring of fluid, electrolyte imbalance, air entry, systemic collapse through central venous pressure changes, lab data of hematocrit and bedside x-ray chest to see the lung aeration level with fluid built up.

Though she must be on best medications available, balance of inotropes, diuretics, antiarrhythmics are choice of time to give her best results.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
