What Causes Severe Body Cramps And Chills?

My father ate some canned pinapple last night with my mom and he suddenly had violent charlie horse like cramping down his legs then followed by his whole body, difficulty speaking because his jaw locked up, and intense body chills. When he laid down he was straight and stiff. This lasted around 5 min. He is 60 years old, perfect blood preasure, healthy weight, and no medications. What could cause this sudden onset of such intense symtoms?

Hello
As per your description of these symptoms what I suspect the following two probabilities.
1. As per the general physical status and symptoms of your father, possibly this could be an episode of convulsion. Cause may be any cerebral pathology including haemorrhage. Get a CT scan of brain done to rule out certain pathologies, and consult a neurologist for further opinion.
2. Another possibility is, this an anaphylactic reaction to some allergen ( in this case may be the canned food). Some antihistaminics could have been used. However, if your father is stable by now with no symptoms; you just need to identify the allergens ( get an allergy test done ) and prevent further exposure to the detected ones.
