25 years old 1,86, 85 kg had tonsillectomy and after 7 days had severe bleeding. They put him in the operation room and put stitches. The stitches removed on the second day. 1st question what is the reason of the bleeding, maybe was a mistake from the surgeon? 2nd how to avoid another bleeding can he does something preventivelly ?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Read and understood that an adult of 25 had tonsillectomy and bled after 7 days. This is called a secondary bleeding and occurs due to a few reasons: Secondary hemorrhage due to either an infection or separation of the slough and by natural separation the base is exposed allowing the exposed blood vessel to rupture easily and cause the bleeding. This happens more frequently in adults and now the chances of re-bleeding are less. This was not the mistake of the surgeon at all. To avoid further bleeding the patient should take only liquids orally and continue with the antibiotics to control the infection.
