What Causes Severe Anxiety After An Open Heart Surgery?

Yes, my husband had open heart surgery on June 5th. He does have a lot of anxiety, and asks for something to help him sleep. He spent 2 weeks in ICU and is now in an acute rehab facility. How long does this drug stay in ones system? He seems out of it when I visit him the following morning/day.
