What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain And Vomiting In A Child?

My daughter is 9.5 years old, and has never been a vomiter until recently. Within the last two weeks, she has had three separate episodes where she starts experiencing horrible upper abdominal pain, immediately followed by nausea and vomiting. The first episode was super significant with multiple episodes of vomiting, followed by significant lethargy--she didn t eat for two days and didn t move from her bed for over 24 hours. The second and third episodes were both very quick onset, with the same upper abdominal pain, shaking, shivering, vomiting, but over quickly. I can t pin-point any specific food (allergen) that might be the culprit. Help!!! I have a healthy child, and I don t like when my baby is sick!!! Mindy

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of severe abdominal pain and vomiting. Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to many reasons like food poisoning , food allergy , infection of digestive system , gas , acid reflux , stomach flu or colic. Need not to worry much. I would suggest you to have quietly sips of water or other clear fluids. Avoid solid foods for a few hours try small amounts of mild foods such as rice, applesauce, or crackers and do not give your child foods or drinks caffeine, carbonated beverages, citrus and dairy products. If condition doesn't get better then consult pediatrician for proper examination. Doctor may prescribe antiemetic drug , antibiotics ,analgesic and antacid.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
